Welcome to EMS Art

My name is Christina Hartz and I have been a member of the Edwardsburg family for years as the middle school art teacher. I love working with students and inspiring them to create. It is a great honor to teach your child/children, and this year I will continue to uphold the reputation of excellence for which Edwardsburg Public Schools is known. My teaching goals are to motivate students to express themselves visually and creatively and to build a foundation of art knowledge and skills through the Elements of Art and Principles of Design. I am looking forward to a rewarding year as we explore various techniques, artists, media and history. In my class, students will focus on the basic skills in art: elements/principles of design, drawing, painting, mixed media, printmaking, and glass/ceramics.

Each Student Will:

  • Learn to trust their creative intelligence.
  • Learn to identify aesthetic qualities in a variety of artwork and in the environment.
  • Learn about history and culture through art.
  • Learn to more effectively use their senses to explore the world.
  • Use both verbal and nonverbal methods to express abstract ideas and emotions.
  • Learn the language of visual art so that they may have a precise vocabulary in which to express their ideas.
  • Practice problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Learn concepts and techniques that will give them control of the visual images they produce.

         Art Education

My role as an art educator is to create a safe and positive learning atmosphere that addresses needs of a diverse population and provide students an environment in which creative thinking, problem solving skills and a unique imagination are encouraged and developed. Students learn differently and all have different personal experiences, abilities and opinions. My goal is to ensure a classroom that addresses the needs of its learners. Finding and making personal connections with a diverse student population of learners is something I develop through collaboration with students, educators and the Edwardsburg community. I am proud to be an art Eddie!
